Challenge

Our mission was to transform the backyard of a historic home in downtown McKinney into an oasis perfect for entertaining and outdoor meetings. With the clients using the house as an office, the new outdoor space needed to facilitate document reviews and presentations, all while preserving the integrity of majestic oak trees and their root systems.

Solution

A retaining wall was constructed to safeguard the live oak’s root system, harmoniously integrating the natural landscape with the new design. We added a cantilevered, covered patio to the house, offering clients protection from the elements. The pool was elevated to coexist with the oak’s roots, ingeniously designed to double as a spa. This allows for year-round enjoyment, providing a space for swimming or a heated retreat for relaxation and therapeutic benefits, enhancing the property’s historic charm with modern functionality.
