Challenge

This property faced significant challenges as we embarked on remodeling a luxury pool that, despite being only four years old, required a near-complete overhaul due to poor craftsmanship and improper techniques. Originally built by a high-volume builder, the pool presented numerous issues that undermined its functionality and aesthetics. The hydraulic systems and equipment were inefficient and required complete replacement, while the intricate perimeter overflow edge was improperly executed and needed rebuilding. Tile and stone materials had failed due to incorrect setting techniques, and the in-floor cleaning system was improperly installed, with collars plastered in place rather than securely glued. Structural flaws were also evident, with unsupported staircases lacking concrete footers. Additionally, the gas fire pit was rendered inoperable, with its valve sealed beneath mortar. Exacerbating these challenges was the project’s tight timeline—just three months to complete the remodel for a major event. Over four weeks of rain added further complications to an already demanding schedule.

Solution

To restore the pool to its intended luxury standard, we reengineered the hydraulic and equipment systems to ensure efficient, reliable functionality. The perimeter overflow edge was meticulously rebuilt to achieve the sleek, high-end aesthetic the client originally envisioned. We replaced all tile and stone with premium materials, installed using industry-best practices to guarantee longevity. The in-floor cleaning system was carefully reconstructed, with secure collars properly installed to prevent future issues. Structural concerns with the staircases were addressed by pouring new concrete footers, ensuring stability and safety. The gas fire pit was completely rebuilt, relocating the valve to a more accessible location and ensuring reliable operation. To meet the tight timeline, we deployed up to four teams of five workers simultaneously, maintaining efficient progress despite the challenges of inclement weather. This project underscores the importance of investing in experienced, high-quality builders from the start. While the original construction cost the client $500,000, the remodel nearly matched that expense due to the extensive corrections needed. Ultimately, our team delivered a stunning, functional pool that not only met but exceeded the client’s expectations, just in time for their major event.
